Bone Mineral Density Testing

This is a specially designed Dexa Scan to measure your bone density.

DEXA scan:

Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan measures the bone density at your hips and spine. This test offers very precise results and is the preferred test for diagnosing osteoporosis. During this test, you lie on a padded platform for a few minutes while an imager (a mechanical arm) passes over your body. The arm does not come in contact with your body. The test does emit radiation although your exposure during a bone density test is commonly about one tenth of the amount emitted during a chest x-ray. This test usually takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

If diagnosed with osteoporosis you may be placed on medications for fracture prevention.
